The collection consists of the records of the S.I.O. Heritage Committee from its creation as a S.I.O. Staff Council committee in 1989 until 1991. These records were created and collected by Robert H. Hessler, first chair of the committee. The records include minutes, notes, accounting and other business records, files relating to the William E. and Mary B. Ritter Memorial Fellowship, and files relating to the George H. Scripps Memorial Marine Biological Laboratory building. The Heritage Committee was initially named the Historic Building and William E. and Mary B. Ritter Fellowship Committee. However, it was always referred to as the Heritage Committee and was listed as Heritage Committee in Staff Council records dated after 1990.
